What is a LiFePO₄ battery?

LiFePO4 is a lithium iron phosphate battery with a high energy density and a low self-discharge rate, mainly used to power electric vehicles, also used in solar installations. Compared with the traditional lead-acid batteries, the LiFePO4 ones offer considerable benefits including higher charging and discharging current, longer battery life and the option of deep discharge with no tendency to reduce overall capacity. Despite a higher price, LiFePO4 batteries are characterised by a considerably lower operating cost, due to which the purchase pays off quickly. They make a valuable investment and an intelligent long-term solution.

LiFePO4 batteries offer a higher energy density than lead-acid batteries available in the market. They have no memory effect which reduces the actual capacity of the battery during its operation, and the self-discharge rate is low, which means that charging is not a big problem.
